BookTube-A-Thon July 2016 TBR List

As soon as the reading challenges video for this year's BookTube-A-Thon went up I had my TBR (to be read) list planned within minutes! However since wondering into my local library yesterday as it was a PokeStop on Pokemon Go (I LOVE that this game is getting people out and about and exploring their local communities) I found out that they now have a huge young adult section. I've had a change around to include some of the book I've checked out and I am so excited to get to some of these books!

If you're not familiar with BookTube-A-Thon, it's a yearly reading marathon which takes place over a week (this year it's July 18th to 24th). There are seven challenges to complete and although it was originally started as a booktube concept you definitely don't need to be a booktuber to take part - there's always a lovely BookTube-A-Thon community on Twitter every year and everyone talks about the books they are reading and supports each other in completing the challenges. It's definitely one of my favourite things about taking part! It's also a great excuse to get a few more books checked off your reading list.

So without further ado, here is my TBR list:

Challenge 1: Read a book with yellow on the cover
This Book Is Gay by James Dawson
After speaking to the lovely Faridah on Twitter recently I realised that I haven't really read any diverse books so when I spotted The Book Is Gay in the library I thought it would be a good one to start with!

Challenge 2: Read a book only after sunset
Lady Catherine's Necklace by Joan Aiken
This is described on the cover as a sequel to Pride and Prejudice so I picked it up immediately as I'm a huge Austen fan! It isn't too long either so I thought I'd be the perfect book for reading at night.

Challenge 3: Read a book you discovered through booktube
Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
I'm not sure if I discovered this book through booktube or bookstagram but either way I've seen Vendetta being raved about everywhere! I'm really excited to see what all the fuss has been about finally!

Challenge 4: Read a book by one of your favourite authors
Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell
I've been wanting to read this ever since I bought it but I've been saving it for booktubeathon as it's so small! I've loved everything I've ever read by Rainbow Rowell and this short story is apparently about a Star Wars mega-fan so I can see myself devouring it very quickly!

Challenge 5: Read a book that is older than you
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
I've been wanting to read this book for years as the Studio Ghibli film that is based on this book is one of my all-time favourite films and when I found that my local library was able to order me a copy I was so happy! It hasn't arrived yet, hence why it's not in the picture above, but as it was first published in 1986 and I was born in 1991, I thought using it for this challenge would be the perfect excuse to get to it as soon as possible.

Challenge 6: Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
I've been meaning to get this book for a long time, I've read both Divergent and Insurgent and seen their respective films, so I thought I'd finally get this trilogy finished off with this challenge.

Challenge 7: Read seven books
Fairest of All by Serena Valentino
And finally as I blog about Disney it's only fitting that I include a Disney book!

If you want to take part in this year's BookTube-A-Thon as well it's not too late! It starts on Monday and you don't have to read all seven books/complete all seven challenges to take part so you still have time to piece together your own TBR list. Good luck!

P.S. If you're taking part make sure you follow the @BookTubeAThon account on Twitter for updates and reading sprints!

Minnie Mouse Style Outfit

I was hoping to do one outfit post a month after I published my first outfit post back in April but as I haven't done one since then you can see that's gone slightly out the window! I'm still nervous in front of the camera even though I'm the only one present when I take these photos as I do it by remote and tripod myself but practice makes perfect! Hopefully I'll be more regular with these posts after this one. Anyway, on to the outfit itself!
As I said in my 20 facts about my Disney life post I'm hugely inspired by Minnie's sense of style - polka dots and bows are definitely right up my street! This Minnie bow jumper that I got from the Disney Store last year is the perfect Minnie Style piece. I first spotted it in an Instagram picture someone had taken of a Minnie display at last year's D23 Expo and I fell in love with it instantly so I couldn't contain my excitement when it popped up on the UK store! It's so cute but it's not in-your-face Disney which I really like.

I thought the jumper would work really well paired with this polka dot dress and Minnie Mouse ears from Primark which were both actually super cheap! The dress was only £7.99 (hence why the majority of my wardrobe happens to be from H&M!) and I think the ears were something crazy low like £5! Despite the teeny price tag they're actually super comfortable. I don't shop in Primark much anymore for their normal clothes but their Disney and other fandom merchandise is so, so good!

Branagh Theatre Live: Romeo and Juliet | Review

On Thursday my Mum and I went to see the live cinema broadcast of the Branagh Theatre's Romeo and Juliet show and although I didn't think I was going to do a post on this I couldn't keep my gushing to myself! Before I begin I should say that although I've titled this post as a 'review', it's more like a bunch of rambling thoughts so apologies in advance!

When I first heard of this show I knew immediately that I had to see it. It actually reunites four of the cast and crew members from Disney's live action Cinderella (including Lily James and Richard Madden who played Ella and Prince Kit!) which is one of my all-time favourite films so seeing this was a no-brainer! I had originally planned to drag either my Sister or Boyfriend to see it with me on stage in London but this soon worked out too expensive, so when I found out they were doing a live cinema stream to cinemas on 7th June it was the perfect solution. My Mum even offered to pay for us to go as a present for finishing my undergrad which made it even more special!
Waiting for the show to begin...

My heart almost broke before the show even began though, as one of the directors, Kenneth Branagh, came on stage to say that Richard Madden had injured his ankle a few days ago and for one awful moment I thought he wasn't going to be able to perform but luckily he said that Richard wanted to persevere! I'm really grateful he braved the show though because I was so excited to see both him and Lily James. Aside from the obvious Cinderella-based fangirling, I'm a huge Game of Thrones fan and I also have a massive girl crush on Lily James so I was definitely very starstruck watching this performance! And they both certainly did not disappoint in the slightest. It was so magical to see them reunited again after Cinderella!

Aside from the initial fear that Richard Madden might not be performing it honestly turned out to be such a wonderful show. I wasn't really sure what to expect as my exposure to Shakespeare consists mainly of the Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo + Juliet film and although I'll admit that I couldn't understand some of the dialogue, I really enjoyed it! The show was styled around vintage black and white Italian films and I think this worked so well with the storyline. The sets and costumes were all simplistic but gorgeous and the characters were so well cast! I especially loved Derek Jacobi (who played the King in Cinderella) as an older Mercutio. He was hilarious!

If you're a fan of the actors at all or just a general fan of Shakespeare then I'd definitely recommend this show. It's running until 13th August at the Garrick Theatre in London so there's still time to catch this wonderful production if you're interested!

July Disney London Meet Up & Oxford Street Disney Store Haul

On Saturday I headed off to London for the Disney London Meet Up that the lovely Lizi from Its Lizi organised! This was the first Disney meet up that I was able to go to as I was caught up in coursework at the time of the last one and although I was a little nervous about going (I'm 24 and still shy around new people, oops!) it was a really great day!

I ended up arriving about half an hour late as my train was delayed and then I made the mistake of going the wrong direction on Oxford Street and having to head all the way back to the other end of the road to the Disney Store to where we were supposed to meet (*face palm*)! Luckily I arrived in time to have a quick look around at all the lovely Disney things before we headed off to Pizza Hut for lunch.
Me, Amy & Kat in Cinderella's carriage! (photo from Kat Last)

Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to speak to many people due to arriving late and having to leave early to catch the train to my boyfriend's afterwards but the people I did manage to speak to were downright lovely! It was especially great to finally meet Kat and Lizi who I've been following for months on Twitter and I also got to talk to some new people too - Amy and Mallory! Everyone was so sweet & kind and it definitely helped calm my nerves a lot!
Amazingly, I only ended up spending about £15 in the Disney Store! I'm currently on a spending ban to save up for our upcoming holiday in September but I allowed myself to buy anything I felt I *had* to have and even though there was a sale on when we went in I only ended up coming away with three things! I very nearly bought one of those Sven pillows though!
Back at my boyfriend's with my new Disney goodies!
...And what was in the bag!
Minnie Mouse Red Zip-Up Shopper Bag - £3
Tsum Tsum Water Bottle - £6.95
Mickey Mouse and Friends Tsum Tsum Bowl - £4.95

I'd been lusting over the new range of ice cream Tsum Tsum merchandise ever since it came out so I finally caved and bought the bowl and water bottle. I just could not resist the pretty pastel colours and the cute little ice cream designs! I've already used both of them since so at least they're quite practical!

Thanks again to Lizi for organising this meet and the ADORABLE little 'FastPasses' she made for us (first picture). How talented is she?! They're such a lovely little keepsake! I'll definitely be going to another meet but I'll have to make sure I can be there for longer next time so I can chat to lots more people!

June 2016 Favourites

I probably say this every month but June has absolutely flown by for me! Although I started my spending ban this month I managed to get quite a lot of purchases in before then so there's lots of new things in this month's favourites:
Frends Taylor Headphones in Rose Gold
Look at these babies! I've had these on my wishlist for quite a while now so when I got a bonus from work at the start of June I finally caved and bought some. I won't say too much about them here as I'm hoping to do a review post on them soon other than to say that I'm in love with them! They're so comfy and I can't get over that beautiful rose gold look!
'Sassy' Pascal Pin
I spotted this on a Disney Facebook selling group and obviously I had to buy it! Who doesn't love a bit of sassy Pascal?!
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
I don't even know where to start with this other than to say I LOVED THIS BOOK. If you're not familiar with this series, it's a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but in a faerie world and it's so, so good guys. I need the next book now!
Hollister Crescent Bay Mist
My friend Heidi gave me this as a birthday present last year and I've been wearing it ever since. It genuinely smells of watermelon which I love as it is favourite fruit and you don't seem to get many watermelon-scented things normally! Plus I get so many compliments whenever I wear it. It's payday for me this week and these are currently on offer for buy two get two free so I'll certainly be stocking up!
Kylo Ren Medium Tsum Tsum
The Force Awakens Tsum Tsum collection finally came out this month and despite the rather nightmarish release, I managed to get my paws on mine thanks to the ever-so-lovely Victoria from Accio Victoria who picked them up for me! Of course I had to get the medium Kylo Ren for cuddles with bae. As his costume is all black this makes him the perfect travel pillow as well so he'll be coming with my on my holiday this year!
Palmolive Chocolate Shower Cream
I picked this up on offer from Superdrug towards the end of June and if you're a choc-a-holic like me then you need to try this! It's deliciously creamy on your skin and it leaves my whole bathroom smelling of chocolate afterwards!
Drawing by Courtney Creates
And finally I think this has to be my favourite thing from this month! Courtney posted on Twitter earlier in June to say she was accepting commissions and I jumped at the chance straight away! Her drawings are so gorgeous and Disney-ish and I certainly was not disappointed with mine. I asked her to do my Beauty and the Beast outfit post and I'm really so happy with it. At the time of writing this I believe Courtney is still accepting commissions so if you're interested you might want to pop her a message on Twitter.

Hope you had a lovely June!
